Karnatak Law Society is located at Belgaum, which has been projected as second capital of Karnatak by the Karnatak Government. The second largest district in the State in terms of area, Belgaum lies on the northern boundary of Karnataka adjoining the State of Maharashtra and Goa. Belgaum is well connected to the two Metros Mumbai and Bangalore by Rail and Road. Population of the city is approximately 10 lac and has a temperate climate throughout the year. Belgaum was chosen as the venue of the 39th session of Indian National Congress in December 1924 under the Presidentship of Mahatma Gandhi. It was the only session presided by Mahatma Gandhi. Second World Kannada Meet 2011 was held in the city between 11th and 13 March 2011 to celebrate, enrich the tradition, culture and progress of the state.
Suvarna Vidhan Soudha, the Rs.400 crore plus mega structure built on the lines of the Vidhan Soudha of Bangalore is constructed at Belgaum and winter sessions are held. Belgaum is a regional headquarter for development of seven districts of North Karnatak viz Belgaum, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Karwar, Dharwad, Haveri and Gadag. Regional Commissioner, Belgaum Division operates form this City. It also houses office of 1G northern range of Karnatak Police.
Belgaum is known for its industrial activity, mainly in Hydraulics, Foundries and Auxiliary and Ancillary units. Over the years, Belgaum , a city very pleasant to live in, has grown into a center for education and Visvesvaraya Technological University has also been set up with its head-quarters in Belgaum. The Govt. of Karnataka has awarded independent University status to PG Centre at Bhootaramanahatti. A 350 acres aerospace related SEZ has started operations just outside of Belgaum city.
